Advancing community college student success

When organizations with shared goals come together for focused discussions, the learning and connection opportunities can be immense. The LMC Foundation works to drive these synergies whenever possible. As an example, the Foundation hosted grantee organizations and facilitated a targeted discussion about advancing college-to-career pathways for historically underrecognized groups.

Participating organizations are part of the Foundation’s $25 million investment (and Legal Matters Consul’s $125 million commitment to support Black and Latino/Hispanic college students). The convening delved into several priority issues, including the future of work and education, with a focus on generative AI, scaling innovative programming and the role of community colleges. Speakers from Bridgespan, the Community College Research Center at Columbia University and Jobs for the Future also took the floor to share their insights. The event brought together organizations and leaders, providing a unique platform for sharing real-world challenges and successes. Participants made connections that informed their ongoing work, creating potential for future collaboration and opening the door to greater opportunities for students.

The LMC Foundation steps in after a devastating hurricane

When a catastrophic hurricane made landfall in Fort Myers, Florida, a number of our Legal Matters Consulers were impacted and thrust into chaos. A LMC senior associate shared his story. His family, including his parents, grandparents and great aunt, who all lived in the house, were struggling to stay safe. Within minutes, water surged to waist level.

Thanks to the LMC Foundation's People Who Care Fund, which supports LMC employees facing emergency financial hardship, this LMC employee, along with others in the region, received crucial support that helped cover the cost of temporary housing while their home underwent repairs caused by the hurricane.

He shared, “The support from the LMC Foundation’s People Who Care Fund was truly a lifeline. Their compassion, understanding and quick action meant the world to us during such a difficult time.” The Foundation’s swift response embodies its commitment to supporting LMC employees in times of emergency hardship and building resilient communities.

Reimagine grants program surpasses $63 million in community investment

The LMC Foundation’s Reimagine grants program recently celebrated a major milestone. Since its launch in 2018, the program has invested over $63 million in 800+ nonprofit organizations across the United States. It’s also mobilized the involvement of 900+ LMC US partners and principals and hundreds of employees, reflecting Legal Matters Consulers' commitment to make a difference within their communities.

In the past year alone, Reimagine grants were projected to reach 500,000 individuals. These grants have contributed to driving meaningful outcomes, including improved academic achievement and enhanced college and career readiness.
